Who we are

The World Day of Prayer is guided by its motto:
Informed Prayer, Prayerful Action.
Through informed prayer, we discover ways to stand in solidarity with women and communities in need. When we prepare and celebrate World Day of Prayer, we do this as a community united in purpose.
World Day of Prayer is both a movement and a journey that requires a genuine commitment - time, study, preparation, and a willingness to stretch beyond what is familiar. This dedication enables local communities to authentically understand the lived realities of women in distant places. We are a global movement anchored by an annual day of celebration – the first Friday of March – to which all people are welcome. Through World Day of Prayer, women around the world affirm their faith in Jesus Christ and seek wisdom to guide their actions in daily life.
The ecumenical spirituality of World Day of Prayer is a year-long experience that opens us to God's inspiration. We find inspiration by listening to women’s voices from a featured country as they share their context through Scripture, prayer, and a theme.

Praying and acting together creates and strengthens community between people near and far.
As we pray and act together, we build and strengthen community across every distance.
