A Prayer for Nepal
Almighty God, Creator and Sustainer of the universe, we worship You, for You are sovereign over all creation. You are above all powers, above all thrones, and above all created things.
We bring before You the nation of Nepal, seeking Your divine intervention in the current situation there. Lord, we cannot imagine what it must be like for the people of that land as they struggle to comprehend the extent of the devastation caused by the recent flash flood. Father, we acknowledge that You are the God who sees and the God who knows all things. You have seen and You know far more than any human being can see or understand. You can see every life that has been affected in one way or another by this tragedy, this absolute disaster.
Father, we bring before You all those who have lost contact with their families, friends, or loved ones because of this calamity. We cannot imagine what they are feeling or how they are coping with this uncertainty. Lord, You see and understand their fear and dread as they wait, desperately hoping and praying for some sign of life. Lord, You are the only One who can comfort them at this time of grief and uncertainty.
We earnestly pray that You would pour out Your grace and strength upon each one. Surround them with Your love and Your peace that passes all understanding. May they experience that special comfort and warmth that comes only from Your presence.
We pray for the government of Nepal as they grapple with the enormous task of coordinating relief efforts. Lord, we seek Your direction for the rescue and relief workers and the armed forces, especially when they may be at a loss to know where to begin. May they be guided by Your Holy Spirit to reach those survivors who may still be waiting to be discovered. Give them wisdom and discernment to respond to the immediate needs of the survivors and those who have been left homeless. Lord, we pray that You would provide for all their needs during this crucial time.
We also pray for those who have lost their homes, possessions, livelihoods, and sense of security. Strengthen them in their distress and provide people who will come alongside them with compassion, practical help, and hope.
Thank You, Father, that You are always available to all people and that we can reach out to You in every time of need. Right now, we reach out to You on behalf of Nepal. We ask that You would intervene, bring comfort to the brokenhearted, guide those involved in the rescue and relief efforts, and meet each person at their point of need.
All this we ask in the precious and powerful name of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
